Oxygen
Oxygen (O2) is a colorless, odorless, highly
oxidizing gas.
Applications
Component in calibration gas mixtures for environmental
monitoring systems and industrial hygiene gas mixtures;
used for instrumentation in the petrochemical industry;
used in first-aid treatment of emergencies such as suffocation
and heart attack; in the treatment of patients with
respiratory disorders; in anesthesia; and in hyperbaric
oxygen chambers for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning
and gas gangrene.
Used as a zero gas for trace impurity analyses. Used
in bomb calorimeters, specialized oxidation reaction
detectors, and in chemical oxidation reaction studies.
Semiconductor: Chemical vapor deposition of silicon
dioxide, especially for MOS gate oxides; thermal oxide
growth; plasma etching; plasma stripping of photoresistors;
carrier gas in certain deposition/diffusion operations.
